Dirty little secret

Have I got your attention? Thought I might with that title. Here it is, the dirty little secret: "your world did not stop revolving on December 31st, there was no miracle start button that made you a different person on January 1st".

So many people get so caught up in new year's resolutions and making big plans for themselves that I'm afraid many of the good intentions often get lost within a short time of them being made. The problem with new year's resolutions is that they only happen once a year. Big mistake. Resolutions should be constant, an ongoing process, not a finite decision that happens once a year. Personally, I believe that we should continuously keep trying to better ourselves, and in order to do so we must goal set. Goal setting is constant and should be done strategically with a plan in place.

For me, I like to goal set in segments: my three segments or "buckets" are: fitness, personal and career. By breaking down what is important to me and my growth into these 3 buckets, I can stay more focussed and ensure that I make progress and succeed at my set out goals. In this blog, I am sharing with you what works for me and my goal setting.

Checking in.

It is one thing to say you have a goal, it's another thing to actually work towards it and be true to yourself and the progress you are making. No one is going to do the work for you, so you have to bunker down and keep checking in on yourself and your goal to make sure you stay on track and if you have veered off track, take note of why and get yourself back on your path forward.

Ask for help.

Don't be afraid to admit that you need some help. Whether you need help and support from your family and friends to help cheer you on or make time to let you work on your goal, or whether you need to seek some professional expertise, ask for help.

Surround yourself with like minded individuals.

The power of energy and positivity is vast and contagious. You can only grow if you are surrounded by those who share the same beliefs and passions as you do. Learn from those around you, soak in their energy, listen to them, watch them and grow.

Have Fun.

Set goals that will make you smile. They say time flies when you're having fun, and I tend to agree with that. Granted, life is not always sunshine and rainbows, but be realistic with your goals because if the process is not enjoyable then what's the point?

Eat, Sleep, REPEAT.

Repeat, repeat, repeat. Goal set, goal set, goal set. Catch my drift. If you achieve one goal, set another. Never stop; stagnancy is boring and mediocre; you are better than that!

I wish all of you a continued year of success and goal achievements. Continue to be awesome, continue to be a better you.

Lina
